Title: Creating SMART Goals

Tools: Google Slides

Time: 4 hours, including background research.

Client: Conejo Valley Unified School District

Collaborators: N/A

Challenge

The client was a school district that wanted school site administrators to be trained in SMART goals as part of a district administrator meeting. For some this would be a refresher, and for others this would be new material. The district was fully entrenched in the Google Workplace ecosystem, and they requested a facilitator guide that would allow them to reuse the training multiple times in the future without reliance on an outside trainer. The challenge as an instructional designer was to create a training resource that could easily be picked up and used without any prior knowledge of the subject or rehearsal of the training.

Solution

The solution that I found was to write a full, word-by-word script for the presentation in the speaker notes of each slide. This rendered the presentation completely plug-and-play for on-the-fly use by any presenter who might open it.

Result

The resulting product is the slide presentation embedded above. This presentation, along with the script embedded into its speaker notes, saw use during an administrator meeting and remains on file by the district for repeat use.
